Resilience

A simple definition of resilience is: ‘The ability to resist, absorb and recover from, or successfully adapt to, adversity or change’.

You have got to be able to push through the resistance and challenges in order to achieve.

You can have resilience as an individual, group, organisation or a country.

Resilience implies finding a way to press forward even though the situation is encouraging you to give up .

Scripture is clear that it valuable to make resilience one of our qualities. It is a quality we need to pursue and develop to allow it define us. We should be able to describe ourselves as resilient. It causes us not to be derailed, distracted or destroyed by contrary experiences but rather use them as a crucible of learning and development.

James 1:12 – Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him

Romans 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Whatever we are dealing with can be looked upon as serving a purpose in God’s bigger plan.

Resilience is a prerequisite for success in life. Life is built such that you will always have challenges, obstacles to your achievement. Having resilience is like taking on the weights in the gym. The resistance to being lifted causes the muscular strain which leads to the development. Resilience makes you say I have come this far to only come this far.

Most of successful people have had to overcome a challenge to get there.

In today’s society, people give up when they encounter failure or their feelings get hurt by what people have said. Knowing who you essential for resilience. Remaining in your lane, and your keeping your minds eyes on your calling is key to resilience.

We need to have resilience in any pursuit that is worthwhile. The commitment to keep applying effort will allow us to learn the lessons that came with the previous failure. Efforts leads to results. In many cases an extra effort defined by resilience is required. When we encounter the road block we strategise and look for how to get round over or eliminate it.

As men we have got to have be resilient to overcome the challenges within our relationships and remain happily married.

We should always ask where resilience should be brought to bear to in reckoning the future of a relationship or quest.

Being able to stand , have confidence in the vision and the current mission is fundamental. Life is a series of decisions. The resilient man looks at the end result and makes the decision not to throw in the towel.

Resilience requires other qualities to work:

⁃ Sense of identity

⁃ Compassion

Draw on these tools to get you through the day. If you embrace these qualities it brings out the resilience in you so are able to stand.

1 Corinthians 15:58
“Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.”

We are able to bargain with ourselves and ask : ‘What is it going to be?’

We have got to strong enough to resist pressure but flexible enough to seek the advisable strategy that may involve taking a different route.

Character, wisdom and resilience go together.

1 Cor 13:1 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Viktor Frankl described that the circumstances that we face does not determine the end result as much as our response. He made a decision to see himself as doing his life’s work and being of service to people while yet incarcerated.

Understanding what our challenges represent and applying wisdom, will always make us ask the questions ‘who I am becoming?’

We have the opportunity to grow when consider the best way to tackle contrary situations.

Having resilience leads to corresponding actions that affect the people in our world . We can be of assistance by doing things necessary and /or inspire people.

We need resilience in all areas of life.

We should commit to expanding our horizons , working outside our comfort zone and taking bold steps to claim our future.
